Moderator's Message

Dear VCC Members, Friends, Associates, Regular Visitors,

While in the U.K., many celebrated Mothering Day in March, and now in the rest of Europe, Mother's Day is coming soon, let us remember all women.  The stories of women and their work for God are woven throughout the Old and New Testaments. We see Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi and her important place in the genealogy of David and Christ. Esther saved her people from genocide. Deborah served as a wise judge over Israel. Priscilla, along with her husband and Paul the Apostle, was a teacher in the early church. Mary, Mary Magdalene, Salome, and Joanna were at the feet of Jesus during the Crucifixion. The first to arrive at the empty tomb were Mary, her sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

These are just a few of the stories of the courageous women mentioned in the Bible. The glass ceilings and obstacles we encounter often leave us second-guessing our roles in today’s church. But remember this the next time you begin to doubt, God has used women in significant ways since the beginning of creation. He wouldn’t change that now.

Amy Jackson reminds us through the story of Easter that God cares for and commissions women to do great things as they join in his work. The women at the cross and the tomb where significant. They had purpose and Christ acknowledged their purpose. You also are significant and have purpose. Before you were created in your mother’s womb, God had a plan for you. Be courageous even when you encounter glass ceilings and obstacles. Go and do what God created you to do.
