13th December 2019

As Christians we wish to contribute to resolving the ecological crisis which humanity is presently experiencing. In doing so, we must first rediscover in our own rich spiritual patrimony the deepest motivations for our concern for the care of creation. We need always to keep in mind that, for believers in Jesus Christ, the Word of God who became man for our sake, “the life of the spirit is not dissociated from the body or from nature or from worldly realities, but lived in and with them, in communion with all that surrounds us” (Laudato Si’, 216). The ecological crisis thus summons us to a profound spiritual conversion: Christians are called to “an ecological conversion whereby the effects of their encounter with Jesus Christ become evident in their relationship with the world around them” (ibid., 217). For “living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience”

We will miss you all greatly!

AFCU Meeting in Paris

The AFCU (The American Christian and Foreign Union) Spring Development Meeting was held in Paris this year. As many of you know, the AFCU supports 1/3 of VCC's budget. The Paris Church, hosted the meeting supported by Pastor Scott's friendly and hardworking congregation, who organised a wonderful programme for those attending. We heard about the plans and missions of the Paris, Berlin and Vienna Churches. What is clear is that the churches should maintain closer ties. While Paris is a much larger church, one can see similarity in some of the challenges all three churches are confronting. We also all share the support of the AFCU Board members and other alumni who wish to see these three churches flourish and grow. When travelling to Paris and Berlin, please introduce yourself to either Pastor Scott (Paris) or Pastor Mari, Berlin's minister. Many thanks again to the AFCU Board members and VCC Alumni who continue to support us with their financial gifts and prayers, especially during this time of transition for the VCC.

VCC Alumni Coordinator

Message from Former Member

My name is Sita Weinrich, and I am the VCC Membership Committee Chair and now also Alumni Coordinator of the VCC.  My role as Alumni Coordinator is to strengthen the relationship between VCC and its alumni members.

I cordially invite VCC alumni members to continue sharing information after they have left Vienna about the impact the VCC has had on their lives, either by writing to me, or the Editor of the VCC Voice (this is the monthly online VCC  newsletter), or to the AFCU Bridge.

In turn, I will keep VCC alumni directly  informed of VCC activities through the VOICE and AFCU Bridge.  I would welcome any suggestions from you as to what you would love to read about!

I would like to share a message from Cenan and Dienke and Savannah Scoot:

Dear Sita,
Thank you very much! We had a very nice day together with our extended family. Dienke has found a good job in Rotterdam, so we will move there soon. And I hope to be sorted out soon as well.
Greetings and best wishes to you and everyone at VCC!
Thank you so much, Sita!
Your email made my day so much brighter!
I am doing really well! I am working for a medical company in New York to produce, test, and export diagnostic tests for infectious diseases like HIV, Zika, Syphilis, and Ebola. We send the medical tests to first and third world countries to be used in free clinics, so everyone, regardless of income, may be tested for such diseases and treated appropriately. I really love the work and the impact that it is making.
I miss you and the VCC family so much; I can't wait to visit Vienna again soon! I hope you are well.
All the best,

Sita, Membership Chair and Alumni Co-ordinator
